Matilde Bassetti is an Italian dance and performance artist based in Berlin since 2017. Situated at the intersection of performance and installation, her practice combines movements, images, video, and collective actions. Games of dissociative identities and storytelling are recurring components in her work. She comes from body practices and somatic work, with a background in dance. She is interested in creating intimate spaces that allow us to be vulnerable, where actions are led by desires and pleasure. Furthermore, she is fascinated with practices, approaches, and ways of relating that deal with the idea of communities. Therefore she strongly supports strategies of cooperation as a tool to dream and create a new understanding of our social structures, where we as bodies are something in the making and not fully inscribed.

In 2023 she received the TakeHeart Residenzförderung from Fonds Darstellende Künste in the framework of NEUSTART KULTUR for her research “ on instant body and poetry”. In collaboration with Libken Denk- und Produktionsort and the collective Inaninstant.

She further works as a dancer for Michele Rizzo, Romeo Castellucci, The progressive wave,Darius Dolatyari Dolatdust, Malacarne company, among others. She performed in various performing arts festivals and museums, in Europe, Australia, and the USA: such as KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Stedelijk Museum, Kampnagel, Santarcangelo dei Teatri, Kunstencentrum BUDA, Centro del Carmen de Cultura Contemporánea, Romaeuropa, DARK MOFO festival.Since 2017 she has been collaborating with the digital artist Mara Oscar Cassiani, winning the “Digitalive” Romaeuropa prize with the work Spirit.
